Ping submission is one of those practices that were famous in the blogging community a few years back. It was a common practice to index content or backlinks on search engines; some bloggers even used it to limit of spam, but what about the present?
Is ping submission still a useful practice for faster indexing? Should you use ping sites? If you’re worried about these questions, heave a sigh of relief. I’ve devised this guide to help you understand the concept of ping submission in SEO.
I’ll explain whether free ping submission sites are still the best way to submit your website for indexing. If yes, what are its benefits from an SEO point of view? And in case it’s harmful, then what are the risks?
What is the Ping Submission Site In SEO?
Ping submission sites are the platform you can use to notify the search engines that I’ve created a new page, backlink, or updated the content, so please index it.
How it works is simple; first, you need to understand that the Google algorithm works on the “crawl, discover and index rule.”
Google crawls sites based on the frequency of how regularly you post the content. If you have a big site and update regularly, Google might crawl daily. Otherwise, usually, Google crawls after a few days or even after weeks for new sites.
The issue is if your site isn’t crawled frequently, there might be a delay in Google discovering your new content or backlink. This delay means that your content and backlinks can’t be instantly added to Google’s massive index of web pages.
And here’s when ping submission sites come into play:
Ping submission websites send an alert to Google and other search engines. After receiving your alert, search engines send crawling bots to your website. This time, thanks to your ping, they come sooner rather than later. The crawler bots discover new content and links on the web page and index them. After indexing, your content will be available to everyone.
Is Ping Submission a Fast Method for Indexing Websites?
Ping notifications to Google are, in a way, a fast method for indexing websites, but it’s not a guaranteed solution.
The reason why I’m saying it can help and also not because indexing and crawling are two different things. Ping submission websites help in getting your website crawled; that’s it.
After the crawling, indexing is a whole different process, especially now as Google has become quite strict when it comes to content quality and relevance. If your website’s content doesn’t help users solve their problems, it won’t be indexed easily. Regardless of how many times you use ping submission sites.
However, if your content is high-quality and aligns with users’ needs, Google will eventually index it after crawling.
5 Benefits of Ping Submission Sites for Free Indexing
Here are the top five benefits of pinging a website for faster indexing.
- Faster Discovery: Google can sometimes be slow to discover content on websites. But with ping submissions, the process becomes easier. Ping websites send signals to Google bots to come and check out your site sooner.
- Speedier Indexing: Once Google discovers content on your site, the indexing process begins. Just remember: your content must be top-notch and helpful to users for quick indexing.
- Indexing Updated Content: When you make changes to your website content, it can take a long time for search engines to catch on. Ping submissions can speed up the process by letting search engines know about your updates.
- Easy Backlink Recognition: Indexing backlinks is a daunting task. It can be a little easier by ping alerts. You can ping the page of the site that has created the backlink, and after crawling, Google will index the backlink.
- Improved Ranking: It’s true that ping submissions won’t directly make your website rank higher on search engines. Nevertheless, they help your content get noticed faster, indirectly leading to better rankings.
Risk of Ping Submission Indexing
The biggest risk of ping submission is you may annoy Google in this process. Think for yourself: how would you react if someone came to you daily for the same reason? You’ll not entertain them the next time; the same goes for Google.
If you use pinging services daily to crawl and index all your content and backlinks, Google will consider you as a spammer. Once your website comes in the “spamming category,” the ranking might go down as well. This is why you should only use pinging tools once in a while (maximum 2 to 3 times a month).
What’s the Proper Way of Doing Ping Submission?
The proper way of pinging is to find top ping submission websites. Here are the five submission sites I’ve used; you can try them as well, but don’t use them extensively.
Select any one of the websites I’ve mentioned and open it in another tab. Remember, every ping submission site requires information like the blog name, URL etc. Enter the URL you want to submit for crawling, type the web page title or the keyword, select the category and click on Ping.
Note: Follow the pinging process only one time for one web page. Sending the pinging alerts continuously is considered spamming.

Final Words
Pinging your backlinks or new web pages is an effective method of getting indexed by search engines easily. Pinging helps Google find your content and rank faster in search engine results. However, despite being one of the best strategies, it also has a downside.
The more times a post is pinged, the more Google will consider it spam. Furthermore, indexing the backlinks and content on your website entirely depends on how powerful the content is and whether you’ve quality backlinks or not. Google will never index your new content or backlink if it doesn’t provide value.
